Iran vs. Egypt 'Pride Match' in Seattle Prop Bets

None of us had this on our Bingo card.

Iran and Egypt will be playing in Friday's World Cup "Pride Match"

It's not lost on many folks that when it comes to the "least gay-friendly" countries, Egypt and Iran, especially, rank near the bottom.

Neither nation had this one on their Bingo card either and both are expressing displeasure, to put it mildly.

The World Cup match between Egypt and Iran at Seattle's Lumen Field is designated as a "Pride Match" by local organizers as it falls during Seattle's celebration of "Pride Month". Both nations' football federations have formally protested the LGBTQ+ branding and themes.  The concept was devised before organizers had any inkling which nations would be playing.

There's this great song from Depeche Mode called "Blasphemous Rumours" that could apply here.  "I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours.  But I think that God's got a sick sense of humour."

Our friends at BetOnline are currently offering a wide array of standard and crazy prop bets for this year's World Cup.  These are being added throughout the day, new one's every hour in some cases.  Gambling911.com continues to monitor for any props related to Friday's "Pride Match".

Drag performances and Pride watch parties are planned across the city while rainbow flags - a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride, diversity, and social inclusion - will fly inside the stadium. Despite complaints from Iran and Egypt, countries where homosexuality is illegal, the event will still take place.

Both teams say they are purely focused on football, with both coaches avoiding questions about gay pride at their news conferences before the match, which kicks off at 04:00 BST on Saturday.

"We are here to play football, not for other things," Ghalenoei said. "As for things that are forbidden in our religion and do not exist, we do not want to talk about them. We only talk about the match, football and the beauty of the game."
