Amazon Settlement Lets Customers Pursue $200 Million From Social Casino App Developers

Amazon.com has agreed ​to a class action settlement that would allow U.S. consumers to pursue more than $200 million ‌in damages from third-party software developers tied to alleged illegal gambling transactions on apps offered through the e-commerce giant’s online marketplace. The proposed settlement, opens new tab was filed on Thursday in the federal court in Seattle and requires a judge’s approval. It ​would resolve a class action filed in 2023 alleging Amazon violated a Washington gambling law ​and the state’s consumer protection act by brokering transactions in social casino apps available ⁠through the Amazon Appstore. The deal does not require Amazon to pay into a settlement fund. Instead, ​the company would agree to a $201 million judgment being issued against it and to assign to the ​class its rights to seek reimbursement from casino app developers. Class members would agree not to collect the judgment from Amazon as part of the deal.

Both prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket had FBI Director Kash Patel exiting by month's end with an 11 percent chance, but news was breaking late Friday that Patel has been summoned to the White House next week.  He reportedly cancelled a trip to see his girlfriend this weekend.   We should note his chances of exiting by the end of August were sitting at 4% just yesterday at Kalshi. The embattled FBI director was set to travel to Chicago in the Bureau's jet to see his girlfriend perform at a music festival when he was called in, sources tell MS NOW.

Alberta Gives Green Light to Online Gambling Sites Starting Monday

Alberta will open its doors to private online gambling operators on Monday. The move, enabled through Alberta’s new iGaming Act, creates a regulated market for private operators and makes Alberta only the second province in after Ontario to legalize commercial online gambling platforms. The government says the change is aimed at boosting tax revenue and dismantling the “grey market,” which it estimates currently accounts for roughly 70 per cent of online gambling activity in the province. Under the new system, Albertans will be able to place bets on some of the most recognizable gambling sites. The sportsbooks front-loaded their World Cup. DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars all peaked in daily actives on June 15, then faded 32% to 41% into month-end. Kalshi and Polymarket kept climbing, with Kalshi hitting its June high on the 30th. The cross-app flow runs one direction. The share of DraftKings users who also opened Kalshi rose 45% from June 1 to June 22, and FanDuel-to-Kalshi rose 35%. Kalshi users trialing the sportsbooks actually declined over the same stretch. Earlier this year, both Christopher Sage and Terry Thompson filed a lawsuit in Pennsylvania that accuses the NFL of playing a role in the problematic habits they developed while gambling on DraftKings and FanDuel.  Now we are hearing that Thompson lost $1.5 million betting with FanDuel, and all the while, the company allegedly encouraged him to keep betting more.  Not only did they assign him a VIP manager to work with him on his bets, but they also gave him exclusive perks such as bottles of champagne and Super Bowl tickets.  They even sent Thompson a personalized video from Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper.  “I just wanted to hop on here and wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving,” Harper says in the video. “Tell (Thompson’s son) I said hello. I appreciate all the support through the years.”
