Red Sox Playoff Odds Turnaround During 14-Game Win Streak

The Boston Red Sox just completely broke the betting market over the last two weeks. On July 2nd, they were dead in the water at 11 games under .500, holding +600 odds (14.3% implied probability) to make the playoffs at BetOnline Sports & Casino.

Fourteen consecutive wins later, they are sitting at -180 (64.3% implied probability). A 50% swing in postseason probability in the span of 14 games is an absolutely unprecedented mid-season turnaround.

One more win, the franchise will also break an 80-year-old record.  How is that for insanity?

Caleb Durbin hit a tiebreaking homer over the Green Monster with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Red Sox extended the second-longest winning streak in club history to 14 games, beating Baltimore 6-5 on Monday night to snap the Orioles’ season-best win streak at seven.

“I’m trying not to, but I want it,” Durbin said about the possibility of tying the club record. “I can’t speak for anyone else. We really haven’t talked about it, but I want to make history here.”
