Austin, Texas (Gambling911.com) - After sitting at -115 apiece over the past few weeks, BetOnline has shifted its Texas Senate odds in favor of the the Democrat James Talarico.
His odds were coming in at -130 while Republican candidate Ken Paxton would pay out even odds should he go on to win.
The Hill/Emerson College Polling survey found 47 percent of state voters supported Talarico, while 46 percent backed Paxton in the race.
In a Telemundo/Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy survey released earlier this week, the Democrat posted a 3-point advantage over his GOP opponent.
Talarico and Paxton tied in two separate Siena University polls in June, but Talarico pulled ahead of Paxton by 4 percentage points in the polling center’s survey at the end of July.
A Democrat has not won the state since 1988.
Bentsen won reelection on November 8, 1988, defeating Republican Rep. Beau Boulter by a landslide, roughly 59% to 40%. Interestingly, Bentsen was simultaneously Michael Dukakis' vice-presidential running mate that year. The Dukakis-Bentsen ticket lost Texas to George H.W. Bush, while Bentsen comfortably won his Senate race.
Bob Krueger, also a Democrat, served briefly as a Texas U.S. senator in 1993 after being appointed to replace Bentsen when Bentsen became Treasury secretary.
