On Sunday in a game against the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears starting quarterback Caleb Williams suffered the non-contact hamstring injury, went down in considerable pain, and was eventually taken off on a cart.
He had a towel over his face, then removed it, and cameras showed that he was emotional/crying as he acknowledged the Soldier Field crowd. Contemporary reports described him as leaving the field “in tears.”
Odds are good there were plenty of Bears fans in tears as well, fearing the worst. Commentary at the time suggested Williams might be out for an extended period of time based on how much agony he appeared to be in.
