Online Casinos Are Global. Their Customer Journeys Still Aren’t

Online gambling has become a global business.

Players can sign up from different countries, deposit in several currencies, use crypto or local payment methods, and access thousands of games from the same device.

However, the customer experience is not always as global as the casino itself.

A review of 100 online casino operators by MyCasinoAnswers found that only 18 offered native Mandarin-language support. Cantonese support was even less common.

MyCasinoAnswers.com is a specialist online casino publication built for Chinese-speaking users who live outside China. Its coverage focuses on the issues those players face in markets such as Canada, the UK, Australia and other countries with large Chinese communities.

The findings suggest that many operators have expanded across borders faster than they have expanded their language support.

A Global Casino Does Not Always Feel Global

For many players, language is not a major issue while browsing a casino homepage.

The problem often starts later.

A player may be able to register, find games and make a deposit without much trouble. But things can become more difficult when the casino asks for identity documents, a withdrawal is delayed, a payment fails or the player needs help from customer support.

Those parts of the customer journey are harder to handle in a second language.

This is especially true when the issue involves money, account verification or casino terms.

A translated homepage is useful, but it does not help much if the player has to switch back to English when something goes wrong.

Only 23 of 100 Casinos Offered Native Mandarin Support

MyCasinoAnswers tested 100 online casino operators across different markets.

Only 23 offered native Mandarin-language support.

That means more than three quarters of the casinos tested did not offer this level of support to Mandarin-speaking users.

Native Cantonese support was harder to find.

This does not mean Chinese-speaking players cannot use those casinos. Many live in English-speaking countries and may be comfortable using English.

However, it does show that language support has not kept pace with the global reach of the industry.

For an operator serving players from many countries, this can create a gap between customer acquisition and customer service.

The casino may be able to attract the player, accept the player's deposit and offer games in several languages, but still struggle to help that same player when a more complex issue comes up.

“There’s a large audience here that operators can serve much better. Around 3.5 million people in the U.S. speak Chinese languages at home, while Canada alone has almost one million Mandarin speakers and more than 700,000 Cantonese speakers. The UK also has a substantial Chinese-speaking population. These are established overseas communities, not a niche audience. For casinos looking to grow internationally, proper localization means supporting these players through payments, KYC, withdrawals and customer service, not just translating the homepage” said a spokesperson from MyCasinoAnswers.com.

For the operators who get this right, the opportunity is self-evident.

KYC Is Where Language Problems Can Become Serious

Know-your-customer checks are a good example.

Online casinos may ask players to provide a passport, proof of address, payment records or other documents before allowing a withdrawal.

In some cases, players may also be asked to explain where funds came from or provide extra information about their account.

These requests can already be confusing.

They become harder when the instructions are not available in the player's strongest language.

A misunderstanding can lead to missing documents, rejected files or longer withdrawal times.

For a Mandarin-speaking player living abroad, the problem is not necessarily access to the casino. The problem may be understanding what the casino wants once the account is already open.

Payments Can Create the Same Problem

Payments are another area where local support can make a big difference.

Casinos now accept a wide range of payment methods, including cards, bank transfers, e-wallets and cryptocurrency.

But payment support is not only about which methods appear on the cashier page.

Players may need help with deposit limits, failed payments, withdrawal rules, verification checks or fees.

If that help is only available in English, the casino may still feel difficult to use even if it accepts players from around the world.

The same applies to bonus rules and account restrictions.

These are areas where a small misunderstanding can have a direct effect on money.

The Chinese Diaspora Does Not Fit Into One Market

Chinese-speaking players abroad are also difficult to treat as one group.

A Mandarin speaker living in Toronto may face different rules and payment options from someone living in Sydney or London.

Their legal market is based on where they live, not the language they speak.

That creates a challenge for casino operators.

A player can be fully eligible to use a casino in one country while still preferring Mandarin when dealing with support, KYC or payments.

This is one reason MyCasinoAnswers focuses on Chinese-speaking users living abroad rather than treating Chinese-language gambling as one single market.

The same language can be used across very different gambling systems.

Translation Is Only One Part of Localization

Casino operators often talk about localization. In practice, that can mean many things.

It may include translated pages, local payment methods, customer support, local currencies, country-specific promotions and games that appeal to certain markets.

The research from MyCasinoAnswers suggests that language support is still one of the weaker parts of that process.

A casino can look international on the surface while still relying heavily on English once the player moves deeper into the account.

For players, that can create friction. For operators, it may mean losing customers who would otherwise stay.

There Is Still Room to Improve

Online gambling is already international.

The harder part is making the full customer journey feel international too.

That means more than offering a translated homepage.

Players may need support when they verify an account, make a withdrawal, question a payment or ask for help.

For Mandarin-speaking users abroad, only a minority of the 100 casinos reviewed by MyCasinoAnswers.com offered native language support.

The industry has made it easy for players to cross borders. The next step is making sure the service crosses those borders with them.
