PHILADELPHIA (Gambling911.com) - Police continue their search for those responsible for an armed robbery of a patron in the parking garage of Live! Casino & Hotel Thursday night in South Philadelphia.
Police said the victim was walking to her car just before midnight on the third floor of the garage when four men approached her when one of the men held her at gunpoint.
Police said the men stole her pocketbook and $4,000 in cash. It wasn't immediately known how much, if any, of that money was won at the casino.
"I don't usually win but when people hit jackpots, everybody's standing around and they're watching to see who wins. They know who to follow," a casino guest told the local Philadelphia ABC affiliate.
While the garage is believed to be under 24 hour surveillance, there have been two other previous armed robberies near the location in the past year.
When ABC Action News raised concerns from casino guests about perceived inadequate security, the casino responded with the following statement:
"At Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, the safety and security of our guests and team members are of the utmost importance. Our security and surveillance teams will continue to support the Philadelphia Police Department as they investigate this incident and assist in any way possible."
The casino is located at 900 Packer Avenue in South Philadelphia's Stadium District, close to Citizens Bank Park, Lincoln Financial Field and the city's other major sports venues.
The area surrounding Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia is generally considered one of Philadelphia's more established sports and entertainment districts, rather than a particularly dangerous or high-crime neighborhood.
The district scores relatively favorably compared with many Philadelphia neighborhoods. However, the analysis cautions that the area has relatively few residents, meaning lower incident counts do not necessarily translate into lower risk per visitor.
