Spain vs. Chile a Crucial World Cup Game

Spain vs. Chile will determine whether the initial 2010 World Cup favorite, Spain, advances to the next stage.

Spain was upset by Switzerland in its first game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.  The Swiss play a team they can theoretically beat in Honduras.  This would give Switzerland 6 points.  In such a situation, the Spaniards would need nothing short of a win.

Spain was a -200 favorite to beat Chile but this is a very good South American team that would pay US$50 for every US$10 bet while the draw would pay out better than 3/1 odds at BetUS.com.

Only 60 percent of the betting support was on Spain coming into this game.

Mike Marshall of BetUS.com believes Spain will advance with a win over Chile on Friday.

"In their second match against Honduras this past Monday, Spain was again dominant harnessing 57% of the possession and 22 shots, this time posting a 2-0 victory (when really it should have been 4 or 5 goals for the Spaniards).

"With Spain returning almost their entire team from their Euro 2008 triumph, it will be nearly impossible for any team to get in the way of the Spaniards and the World Cup podium, as they will advance through to the quarterfinals.

"Possessing a well-rounded team full of creative midfielders, Trojan Army-like defenders, and sniper forwards the Spanish breezed through World Cup betting qualifying, posting an undefeated record in ten matches.

"A greater indication of the completeness of this Spanish team was their overall goal differential of +23 in qualifying. Over ten qualifying matches, Spain scored 28 goals while conceding only 5. In their final international friendly, the Spanish dismantled a Polish side 6-0.

"World Cup betters should know there is no slowing down this high octane Spanish team as they will look to build their attack from the back with skilled defenders like Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos. They will push teams to play their high pressure, up-tempo style, looking to tire out the opposition early."

This one goes off at 2:30 pm EST as does Switzerland vs. Honduras.

Switzerland was a -200 favorite vs. Honduras in its game.
