Is recording artist Wyclef Jean really the right choice for President of Haiti?

The poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere has had to endure decades of corrupt – and sometimes brutal – leaders.

Jean, a CBS News Crimestoppers Report reveals, owes the IRS back taxes to the tune of $5,278,430.10.

From CBS:

According to court records, dating back to 2004, obtained by CBS affiliate WFOR, the rapper, whose legal name is Nel W. Jean, and his wife Marie Claudinette owe over $5 mil in Federal IRS and state tax liens on properties in NY state, New Jersey and Florida.

Now more liens, filed by the IRS, have surfaced. First reported by the website The Smoking Gun, the liens are taxes Jean allegedly failed to pay from 2006 through 2008 totaling more than $2.1 million on his Saddle River Borough property.

The recording artist’ Wyclef Jean Foundation was scrutinized for shoddy bookkeeping following the January earthquake relief effort in Haiti.

Gambling911.com’s monitoring of online betting exchanges that currently offer odds on Wyclef Jean becoming the next President of Haiti have the odds of this happening at just under 50 percent.  He announced his intentions last week after days of speculation.
