Cricket Match Fixing

Four members of the Pakistani national cricket team were questioned and another man arrested on Sunday in connection to an alleged cricket match fixing scandal.

The News of the World first broke the story that the Lord’s Test between England and Pakistan had apparently been rigged.

The paper clamed that team members Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif delivered THREE blatant no-balls to order and pocketed £150,000 as part of the scam.  A known “fixer” spoke to the paper during an undercover operation.  Scotland Yard has launched its own investigation into the affair.

London's Metropolitan Police said a 35-year-old man was arrested late Saturday on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers. No players or team officials have been arrested as of yet.

Team captain Salman Butt, manager Yawar Saeed and two other players were each questioned on Sunday and later released.

The team manager would not comment on any of the accusations regarding match fixing.

"No allegations are true until they are proved either way," said Saeed. "So that this point in time they are just allegations. Let's wait until the case is complete."

England beat Pakistan in the four-day match at Lord's cricket ground, which ended Sunday afternoon, after the scandal broke.
