Despite any losses during the rest of Saturday, the online bookies managed to save face with a North Carolina Tar Heels cover, though it wasn’t necessarily a cover for those who bet LSU at -6 or less.

After opening as a -1 favorite, bookies like Bookmaker.com scrambled to adjust the North Carolina line following news that nearly their entire line had to be reshuffled thanks to over a dozen players being found ineligible to play.

The Tar Heels did manage to lose by a mere 6 points.

“It was a matter of when you placed your bet,” points out Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.  “If you wagered early enough, chances are you got a line under -6 for LSU prior to Thursday.”

The vast majority of gamblers wait until the 24 hours leading up to any game, something that favored the bookies in this scenario.

A review by Gambling911.com found that most online sportsbooks did not move the line in this game above the number 5 until early Thursday morning.  By late Friday night it was already at 8 and by Saturday had skyrocketed to -10.

LSU was the single most bet on team of the first weekend’s 2010 College Football with 90 to 95 percent of the action reported on the Tigers at any given time.
