“We had the line initially open as a pick,” he observed.  “This was at the so-called ‘sharp’ shops, the Pinnacles and Olympic Sportsbooks of the Web. 

“The more recreational shops like BetED.com, which cater to leisure Web bettors who like to place $10 to $50 bets on their favorite teams, these guys opened at Patriots -2.

“And while there’s been a pretty dramatic three point move across the board, most of the online sportsbooks began settling in around -3 by Wednesday and haven’t moved.  There isn’t much point to moving since all the action – 90 percent or more of it – is coming in on New England.  These books are wanting action on the Jets.  But to move the line up above the 3 points is dangerous.  They risk getting hit on both sides should the game fall on ‘3’.”

The chances of that happening are somewhat good.  Two of the last games in this series have been won by 3 points. 

The online sportsbooks are hopeful of one recent stat:  New York winning two out of three in this series (though the Patriots won their last meeting).  The Jets lost their 4 previous home games in this series however.
