Talk about a line that was all over the map, though it has settled down somewhat. Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Jets betting odds opened as high as -3 in favor of the Jets and was all the way down to a pick at press time. Most shops - including BetOnline.com - had this one set at Jets -1. The action was even though 72 percent was going towards the OVER 45.

Gambling911.com felt the line on this game should be Jets at a half point or a pick, so this one was pretty much on the money after the fact in our opinion.

There is no substantial recent head-to-head data on this matchup that can be considered reliable. The fact that New York has beaten Arizona 3-0 since 1996 is pretty irrelevant considering the spread of time, though it could also be argued that neither team has necessarily improved dramatically over this time.

Arizona pretty much has the edge in nearly all aspects of this matchup.

The Cardinals are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up loss.

The Jets are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 home games.

From Joe Caporosa of MVN:

Arizona is by no means a bad team. They are very dangerous on offense, obviously due to Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Edgerrin James. The Jets will likely have a tough time defending their receivers, since rookie Dwight Lowery is probably going to be matched on a pro-bowl caliber receiver in Boldin all game, who has a major size advantage on him. Kris Jenkins is expected to play, which gives me confidence in the Jets ability to stop the fairly average Cardinals running game. On offense, the Jets should be able to run the ball on Arizona. With Favre a little gimpy this week, expect Thomas Jones to see 20 carries, while Favre goes back to throwing 18-24 times.

I am interested to see what Arizona will do on kickoff. They could either deal with Leon Washington or kick it short and hope the Jets don't put Jerricho Cotchery in the second line.

Overall, I feel good about this game. I think the Jets will win a close one. This game won't be anywhere near a blowout, but I think the Jets will move the ball and make a few big plays on defense, due to Warner's propensity to fumble the football.

For us, this is too close a call and the game can go either way with too little historic trends to go by.

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
