Paul the Psychic Octopus, who gained fame during this year’s World Cup for his flawless predictions, apparently has a cousin named Paddy who correctly predicted the outcomes on events closer to England such as the All Ireland Hurling Final.  The intentions were to have cousin Paddy make “his” Ryder Cup predictions.  That won’t happen!

Both Paul and Paddy make their predictions by selecting one of two food boxes.

But Paddy became….shall we say….a little unpredictable this past weekend.

Paddy’s pregnant!  “He” is really a “She” and the octopus just laid over 1000 eggs in his Oberhausen, Germany aquarium.

Paddy Power had entered into a deal with that aquarium to gain exclusive rights to Paddy’s picks.
Pat Ó Súilleabháin, General Manager National Sea Life Centre, said “This was obviously a very big surprise and unfortunately means that Paddy, or should I say Patricia the psychic octopus, is now completely off her food and has no interest in making predictions of any kind”
Paddy Power said “We’re absolutely gutted.  It was all systems go for a high profile event centered around Paddy making his Ryder Cup predictions.  We even had a web cam organised to broadcast the event live around the globe.  I’m not sure what the future now holds for the octopus but I for one really fancy calamari for dinner!”
