Chris Low of ESPN first broke the news of Saban's shock retirement.

"Nick Saban is retiring, sources tell ESPN. He won six national titles at Alabama," he tweeted.

Saban was hired by the University of Alabama in 2007.  The 72-year-old won his first national championship with LSU in 2003, led the Crimson Tide to the title in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2020.

Saban guided Alabama to a 12-2 record this season. His final game was a 27-20 overtime loss to eventual national champion Michigan in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.

BetOnline also has odds on Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh's next move with the NFL coming in as the -230 favorite.
