What Are The Odds to Win - Men's 100m Backstroke - Swimming - Paris Olympics

There are three qualifiers for the Men's 100m Backstroke Swimming event at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics who have a pretty equal shot at winning based on the odds.

Each pays around $200 to $250 for every $100 bet to win the gold here.

Murphy is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and the former world-record holder in the men's 100-meter backstroke.

At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Murphy won a gold medal and set the world record in the 4x100-meter medley relay with Michael Andrew, Caeleb Dressel, and Zach Apple, in addition to a silver medal in the 200-meter backstroke and bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke.

Murphy first started winning gold medals in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

“In 2016, I was just wide-eyed,” he said last month at Cal. “I just went into the Olympics, and I really had no idea what to expect.  I think the naivete was pretty good for me. I was just able to follow the leaders we had on the team and just kind of go in there with no pressure. It allowed me to just focus in racing.”

At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Murphy swept the backstroke events, winning gold medals in both the 100- and 200-meter backstroke races.

He comes into Paris a veteran of the Olympics, so to speak.

“Now I understand how the Olympics work a little bit more,” he said. “I understand the nuances of how everything is going to be organized. But I also understand the consequences of performance, and I think that’s where a lot of the pressure comes. I think I’m good at dealing with pressure, but definitely understand the magnitude of the pressure now.”

The competition will be tough.

Thomas Ceccon is a world record holder in the long course 100 metre backstroke and the short course 4×100 metre freestyle relay. He is also the Italian record holder in the long course 50 metre backstroke and 50 metre butterfly.

At the 2020 Summer Olympics, he won a silver medal in 4×100 metre freestyle relay, a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre medley relay, placed fourth in the 100 metre bacsktroke, and placed twelfth in the 100 metre freestyle.

“I live for this sport. It’s the reason I wake up in the morning. Since I was little, I felt I could do everything, but because of my physique, short legs, long torso and broad shoulders, I was nervous and in pain before my races," Ceccon (pictured below) said back in January.  "Then, with international experience, I managed to master the adrenaline—so much so that now I approach the competition with the right pressure.”

Apostolos Christou of Greece offers the best payout of the three co-favorites.

He competed for Greece at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In the men's 100 metre backstroke competition, he placed 18th in the heats with a time of 54.12 seconds and did not qualify for the semifinals.
