Jessica Fox (AUS) is the odds-on favorite to win the Women's K-1 gold medal at this year's Summer Olympics in Paris.  Fox is aiming to join Shane Gould as the only Aussie to win three individual gold medals at a single Games.  Her odds were coming in at -135 with Ricarda Funk of Germany listed at just shy of 4-1 at BetOnline.

Fox first qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she made her Olympic debut at 18 years of age, winning a silver medal in the K1 event. She won a bronze medal in the same event four years later in Rio de Janeiro, and again at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. She won gold at the 2020 Olympics in the C1 event, becoming the first Olympic champion in that event.  

In June, she became the first athlete to win three individual gold medals over a single weekend at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup event in Kraków, Poland.

"I was super proud with how I raced," Fox said.

"Never could have imagined I would finish up with three golds but I built into the weekend and sort of found the feeling.

"The K1 race went really well and I was stoked to put down a clean run and feel that boost of confidence and then building off that in the canoe and then finishing off with the kayak cross.

"So three from three was the perfect result."

A K1 is a racing level kayak used on flat water such as deep rivers and lakes. They are long and narrow to reduce drag which makes them extremely unstable. A K1 kayak has an enclosed cockpit and is designed to be a “sit-in”, as opposed to a “sit-on” like a surfski.
