Blackjack it appears, is an excellent way to cool off before a big show as pop star Iggy Azalea admitted that she went on a twelve hour blackjack binge at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas prior to the 2015 Billboard Music Awards last month, and other celebrities also flock to the table for their own devices. Professional golfer and bad boy John Daly revealed last year that he would often hit up the felt at a casino during his time off the links, racking up some spectacular wins and extraordinary losses along the way. In his time at the tables Daly estimates that he lost a staggering $90 million, much, much more than the average person would even dream of seeing in his or her lifetime.
Why would he wager such high amounts at the tables? “It was more about the adrenaline than the money … I loved the action,” Daly said. “I guess you can say I always liked to take chances. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t.”
Other celebrities think they have a system and are looking for a way to eek out an edge against the house. Blockbuster film star and new Batman actor Ben Affleck admitted to Details Magazine in an interview that he is a card counter, and the activity has led to him being banned from the table at nearly all Las Vegas casinos.
It appears that Mr. Affleck’s skills have followed him to across the country as well. While in Detroit filming the upcoming movie Batman vs. Superman: The Dawn of Justice, Mr. Affleck reportedly went across the river to Caesars Windsor Hotel & Casino where he played for a while before being discovered by casino staff and asked to leave.
“I took some time to learn the game and became a decent blackjack player. And once I became decent, the casinos asked me not to play blackjack,” the action star said of his blackjack skills.
