Bad News for Derma Sotogake

The $1 million UAE Derby (G2) at Meydan in Dubai has yet to produce a Kentucky Derby (G1) winner.

Since 2000, 18 times horses from the UAE Derby raced in the Derby and have had little impact.

Trainer Yoshito Yahagi will be making his Kentucky Derby debut.

Derma Sotogake isn't the only horse from Japan expected to race in this year's Derby.  There is also Continuar.   Both horses are seasoned travelers, which could help minimize the impact this trip from the UAE to the US might be having on entrants.

Post Position Draw

The very unlucky 17 spot, which is the only post position not to have produced a winner.

Some Food for Thought

Jockey Christophe Lemaire is 0 for 1 in Derby. He finished 13th on Crown Pride in 2022.

"I have been in this business for 30 years and this is my first big horse," said owner Hiroyuki Asanuma after his UAE Derby victory.
