2014 World Series of Poker – What to Watch For? $10 Million Guaranteed 1st Place
The 2014 World Series of Poker (45th annual) got underway Tuesday (May 27) and this promises to be one of the most exciting WSOP’s ever. Just knowing there will be a $10 million guaranteed 1st place prize is enough to have poker aficionados mouths watering.
This year’s WSOP will shatter records in terms of how much cash is doled out, likely more than $2 billion (that’s billion with a “b”).
Highlights of this year’s WSOP will include the “Millionaire Maker” event that kicks off this coming Saturday. Lasting three days, this $1500 buy-in is a single re-entry No-Limit Hold’em tournament that drew close to 6500 participants last year. There is a guaranteed $1 million 1st place prize.
On June 22 there is the $50,000 buy-in Poker Players Championship event that will pay close to $2 million. It is the second most expensive buy-in of this year’s World Series of Poker and is sure to attract some of the biggest names in the game.
What’s likely to be an even bigger draw than the Main Event is the much heralded Little One for One Drop (referred often as just the One Drop) that promises a payout that could surpass the $20 million mark. This is a $1 million buy-in that takes place June 29 to July 1. In 2012, pro Antonio Esfandiari walked off with more than $18 million, becoming one of poker’s biggest earners of all time as a result.
And of course there is the WSOP Main Event with its $10 million guarantee that kicks off July 5 and, unlike the One Drop, will be open to just about anyone with $10,000 to spare.
Event #41: Dealer's Choice Six-Handed and Event #51: No-Limit Hold'em MONSTER STACK (15,000 starting chips) will also attract a wide array of interest.
