Backpack Controversy Emerges as World Series of Poker Considers Door Check

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, World Series of Poker organizers have confirmed they are, at the very least, studying the issue as to whether backpacks should be checked at the door.

Jack Effle of the WSOP tweeted:

We are looking into the concern

Needless-to-say, a number of other poker pros chimed in.

BJ Nemeth wrote:

@RandyMurfin It’s been discussed among the media as a possibility, but damn near impossible to come up w/ a practical solution.

BJ Nemeth wrote:

@RandyMurfin With all the cash that players routinely carry, a hold-up or heist seems much more likely than pipe bombs.

Matthew Waxman wrote:

You have be joking me! I am now inspired to go on a rant why backpacks shouldn't be checked !

.@DtwhitehouseDt If a bomb went off it would be #jbl. It's just as likely that it would happen at a restaurant or some convention.

@DtwhitehouseDt @Matthew_Waxman @WSOPTD @WSOP @RandyMurfin @RealKidPoker That logic makes a great argument for mandatory cavity searches.

Dtwhitehouse wrote:

@Matthew_Waxman or a sporting event, like a marathon.

@Matthew_Waxman and it doesnt have to be just bombs. could be gun/s

Randy Murfin wrote:

@Matthew_Waxman @WSOPTD @WSOP @RealKidPoker just something that had always been in the back of my mind, Boston brought it to the forefront.

Dan O’Brien wrote:

@Matthew_Waxman @WSOPTD @RandyMurfin @RealKidPoker if someone wants to bomb the @WSOP, he will. Sad but true. Accept it & go on living

Randy Murfin wrote:

@DanOBrienPoker @Matthew_Waxman @WSOPTD @RealKidPoker @WSOP For sure!!.. I just posted what I think was in the back of most people's minds.

It was also revealed this week that the EPT Monte Carlo will be checking backpacks during their event that takes place over the next few days.
