Bodog Poker: PokerScout Data Mining Numbers Just Estimates
Bodog Poker informed Gambling911.com on Thursday that numbers appearing on the PokerScout.com website revealing player traffic for their online poker room were “estimates” and not actual numbers.
Bodog announced on Wednesday it had implemented software that will prevent data mining and will no longer allow traffic monitoring websites like PokerScout.com to provide readers with accurate player numbers.
“Currently there is a wealth (quite literally) of data available on individual players and websites that only benefit professional players to the detriment of recreational player and, equally therefore, to the detriment of the poker industry itself,” a statement from the company read on Wednesday.
It continued: “Bodog Poker Network has already forced the industry to rethink its approach to rakeback causing the major rooms to follow suit. Now Bodog’s Recreational Poker Model has removed table information they will be less attractive to professional players and by the end of the year even individual player stats, both live and historical, will no longer be available to data sites.”
The average cash players as of 1 pm EST Thursday was being displayed at 250, compared to the 910 weekly average and 2508 average peak that had appeared prior to the software implementation.
PokerScout.com currently ranks Bodog Poker as the 15th largest online poker site in the world. The network will likely no longer be featured on their traffic monitoring chart.
It remains to be seen whether other sites will follow suit.
