BSOP Millions 2014: Wilson Calixto Takes Final of the Brazilian Championship

Wilson Calixto is the newest Brazilian poker millionaire. After seven days of poker festival in the Events Center of the Sheraton World Trade Center in Sao Paulo, at dawn on Thursday, the player from Brasilia won the Main Event of the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP Millions) pocketed R$ 1,05 million (approx. USD$420,000).

The last day started with 10 players and lots of action. Within half an hour the final table of 8 players was on the way. The first to say goodbye was short stacked Marcel Carli. Soon after, Adecir Cassol fell in ninth place.

At the start of the final table, Luiz Ferreira and Ednei Carrilho (Presunto which means ham in Portuguese) were virtually tied for the lead with just over 13 million chips each. The first victim of the final table was Humberto Meireles. Already short stack, he moved all-in with 6-6 and Calixto was the one who made the call, with 4-4. A 4 on the flop sealed the hand.

The next on the elimination list was Chilean Sebastian "El conejo" Ruiz. The Chilean pushed all of his chips after a raise of "Presunto" who made the call immediately. 4-4 for Sebastian and A-A for the Brazilian. The board brought A-3-K-7-2 and the last foreigner in Main Event finished in seventh place.

Lucas Iglesias was the executioner of the sixth place. The flop came 6-A-Q- the last two diamonds, Neném Brito went all in for about 25 big blinds with 9-7 of diamonds and Lucas called with A-8 of diamonds. The turn brought an A ace of spades and the river was the K of clubs.

Calixto grew into the game and took the lead. Eventually sending Anderson Cruz home in fourth place when his A-Qs beat an AJ.

With a short stack, Presunto was all in with Q-10 and Luiz Ferreira Duarte made the call with A-8. Duarte's hand held and Ednei finished fourth. 
With three players in the tournament, there was a deal. The dealt was: Wilson Calixto with R $ 800,000, Lucas Iglesias with R $ 790,000 and Luiz Duarte R $ 710000, leaving $ 250,000 for the champion.

Soon after, Lucas Iglesias finished third. On a flop of 4-9-J-8, Calixto moved all-in with after a bet from Lucas, Iglesias called. Calixto showed 10-7 and Lucas A-A. The river, 6, was not necessary.

Calixto started heads-up with 43.9 million chips, compared to Luiz Duarte’s 38.6 million. Calixto took the advantage slowly. On the final hand, the blinds were 300,000 / 600,000 (ante 50,000). Luiz opened with a mini-raise and Wilson called. 
The flop came 6-5-Q, Wilson made the check, Luiz bet 1.2 million chips and the Brasilian paid. The turn brought a J and a check from Wilson, followed by a bet of 2.5 million from Luiz. Wilson put everything inside the pot. Luiz, with around 16.5 million chips, thought for a while before making the call. 
Showdown, J-5 for Wilson and Q-3 for Luiz. A 7 of hearts on the river defined the new champion.

The BSOP Millions had 2,749 entries and became the second largest poker tournament in the world held outside of Las Vegas. These are the Final Table results:

About the Brazilian Series of Poker 
The Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) emerged in 2006 as the first national series of poker, with a similar structure of major international tournaments. In addition, the proposal would be a travelling tournament, providing expertise in live poker for players of various states. Currently, the BSOP is the Brazilian Championship Poker, one of the most prestigious world tournaments and has an average of 400 participants per stage in the Main Event.
