David Peters Wins EPT Malta €10K High Roller for €597,000
David Peters took down the EPT Malta €10k High Roller today after beating a 304-entry field. Peters banked €597,000 to secure the biggest cash of his career.
He was also rewarded with an exclusive watch from Swiss brand SLYDE, the Official EPT Season 11 Watch sponsor for Main Events and High Rollers. Peters has been a prolific poker player for many years and today's results puts his lifetime live tournament winnings over the $5 million mark; he has also won more than $3 million online on PokerStars.
Entering the heads-up with a 2-to-1 chip advantage, the American discussed a deal with his opponent Ivan "Negriin" Luca from Argentina but, after long negotiations, they weren't able to agree on a split and played on for the remaining €200k.
Among others, Peters had to compete againnst his fellow countryman Nick Petrangelo on the final table. Petrangelo seems to specialize in the EPT High Roller events. He first came to attention at the PCA back in January, where he finished sixth in the $25k High Roller for $301,500. Petrangelo then made the final tables of both EPT Malta High Rollers, earning €205,900 for fourth in the €25k, and then adding another €109,000 to his earnings after finishing sixth in the €10k.Today's finish nicely wraps up a solid three months on the live scene and $900k in winnings.
There were 235 unique players in the tournament (plus 69 re-entries), creating a total €2,979,200 prize pool. 39 players were paid including Team PokerStars Pro George Danzer, who fell in 29th place.
