Disputed Phil Ivey Winnings at London Casino Referred to Gambling Commission
The British Gambling Commission will review the disputed $11.7 million (£7.3m) won by poker pro Phil Ivey at the Genting-owned Crockford’s Casino back in August. Crockford’s has withheld payment of the monies due to Ivey for reasons not entirely known.
It was also not clear as to why the Gambling Commission would now be overseeing the matter.
The Daily Mail on Sunday reported that the recently divorced Ivey had been playing Punto Banco, a skill-free variant of baccarat, when he struck the remarkable win streak.
There was also suspicion surrounding a mysterious Asian woman who appeared along side Ivey as his companion. She has had her membership at another Genting-owned establishment revoked, The Daily Mail uncovered.
Ivey is one of the biggest money earners in the game of poker.
