Doyles Online Poker Room Saves Life
If not for the decision to stay up and play online poker for another hour on the Doylesroom.com website, Capt. David P. Satterfield would most certainly have died.
Captain Satterfield explained what had occurred that fateful evening in a letter obtained by the Gambling911.com website:
I have dealt and played on the tournament circuit since 2002. I have
dealt to and played with Mr. Brunson for years now and respect him
immensely which is why I play on this site. An event occurred last night
and I wanted to send my personal thanks to Doyle.
Last night I was about to go to bed but decided to stay awake for
another hour to catch a tourney, as I began playing I started feeling
deathly sick and it ended up being carbon monoxide poisoning from a
broken furnace. Playing that tourney literally SAVED MY LIFE! I wanted to
thank him from the bottom of my heart, as this site is the only reason I
am alive right now, as the furnace is attached to my room, had I gone to
sleep I would be looking up at the daisies right now.
I am alive because I play at Doyles room.com.
Brunson himself is somewhat of a miracle story.
Brunson met his future wife, Louise, in 1960 and married her in August 1962. Louise became pregnant, but later that year, a tumor was discovered in his neck. When it was operated on, the surgeons found that the cancer had spread and declared it incurable. They felt that an operation would prolong his life enough for him to see the birth of the baby, so they went ahead with it. After the operation, no trace of the cancer could be found. The doctors said that his recovery must have been a miracle, and Brunson has attributed his recovery to the prayers of friends of his wife and their correspondence with Kathryn Kuhlman, a self-proclaimed Christian faith healer. Louise developed a tumor shortly afterwards and, when she went for surgery, her tumor was also found to have disappeared.
"Since Doyle Brunson joined the Gambling911.com website we have all felt touched by him," said Jenny Woo, Senior International Correspondent of G911. "He remains an inspiration to all of us."
