French Poker Awards and Other Ceremonies ‘Pointless but Everybody Loves it’
The French Poker Awards were handed out Tuesday night (February 3, 2015) during the EPT 11 Deauville festival, and after enjoying the festivities PokerNews.com spoke to French Poker Series President Cédric Billot about the importance of events like this.
PokerNews.com had spoken to Global Poker Index head Alex Dreyfus prior to the awards ceremony regarding the notion held by some in the poker community that such events are overdone and, in some cases, partial.
“Awards are here to celebrate and award the best players and best initiative,” Dreyfus said of the criticism. “Are they 100 percent partial? Yes and no. I mean, we cannot say that is the best movie or that is the best player. It’s just a judgment made by a jury.
“My view is that they are needed if we want to have media talking about poker,” he added.
Billot chimed in following the French Poker Awards ceremony.
“They are pointless, but everybody loves it,” Billot said.
