Harrah’s Entertainment Paid Over $1 Mil To Support Online Poker Bill
Once heavily opposed to legalized online poker, Harrah’s Entertainment is revealed to have spent over $1 million lobbying in favor of a bill authored by Congressman Barney Frank that would essentially license Internet poker rooms in the United States. And this amount, in support of HR 2267, was spent in the second quarter alone. A similar amount was paid in the first quarter.
A new BV Media study points to 43 special interest groups spending approximately $4.21 million lobbying for and against online gaming with $171,438, or 4.1 percent of total spent in opposition, the rest went towards pushing legalization, though an estimated $663,442 accounted for a neutral stance on the issue.
The outspoken Poker Players Alliance and the UC Group spent $450,000 and $487,690, respectively, for the cause.
