Chayote

Famed Costa Rican poker pro Humberto Brenes eliminated fellow countryman Felipe Montenegro from the Punta Cana Poker Classic with what organizers were calling a “Chayote”.

Here we go with our somewhat haphazard explanation of what a “chayote” is:

A flop of jack seven appeared.  Humberto reraised that flop then Felipe bet it.  Humbertro raised.  Felipe reraised.  Humberto showed.  Fleipe had an ace jack.  Humberto had a queen seven.  The flop was a jack three seven.  Felipe bet Humberto and moved all-in.  Felipe called.  The turn was queen.  The river was a random card.  Felipe was eliminated.

And there you have it, a “chayote”.

Brenes was among the 165 players still left in the $500,000 guaranteed tournament after Midnight Wednesday.  He was taking part with four of his brothers.
