Jamie Gold New Online Poker Room

Looking to emulate the success of US subscription-based online poker sites like the enormously popular Facebook product Zynga Poker, 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Jamie Gold has launched FreeGoldPoker.com.

From PokerQ4:

“You have to feel that FreeGoldPoker.com could really capture the imagination of the recreational player market – a market that currently has nowhere to play at. The success of this venture will of course come down to how it is marketed and to what degree, but if it gets the proper exposure, I can really see this type of venture taking off and pointing to the future of online poker in the US, in the immediate short-term anyway.”

The site promises $100,000 in Monthly Cash and Prizes, Texas Hold'em, Royal Hold'em and Video Poker UFC, WWE Gear and Event Trips and Tickets Cameras, Home Electronics and Other Valuable Prizes Poker Articles, Tools and Tips Watch Game Play Through "Poker TV".

Gold has been one of the most controversial figures on the poker circuit.  After his $12 million win at the 2006 WSOP, the biggest recorded cashout ever in the history of poker tournaments, Gold was forced to split his winnings with another individual.

Bruce Crispin Leyser claimed that Gold promised him half of any winnings in exchange for finding celebrities to represent Bodog Poker (the company Gold himself represented at the time) by wearing their logo while playing in the $10,000 tournament.

More recently, Gold was alleged to have bounced a $50,000 check at the Borgata Casino.  The property reportedly won a default judgment against Gold in New Jersey but would have to pursue further legal action in California where Gold currently resides, according to TMZ.com.
