Jason Mercier Once Stabbed in the Back – Almost Died: Reveals Scar for First Time

While attending this week’s EPT Barcelona events, poker pro Jason Mercier spoke to PokerStars TV and was candid in recounting the time he nearly died outside an Italian nightclub following a brutal and -what he says - was an unprevoked stabbing.  The attacked occurred right after his first European Poker Tour win in 2008 at San Remo.

He was celebrating his big win.

“I’ve told this story a thousand times,” he said to the interviewer, who confessed she only recently heard the story and thought she “was being bluffed by a great poker player”. 

Apparently a lot of other folks hadn’t heard the story either.  It is buried amongst Web searches for “Jason Mercier Stabbed”.

He said it was all random, that a group of Italian guys approached him and got in his face.

“I guess they didn’t like that a few American guys were in their bar,” he said.
