Man Sentenced for Internet Poker Fraud: Ordered to Return £1 million
Poker pro Darren “DooshCom” Woods has been sentenced to 15 months prison time for an online poker fraud he committed between the period January 2007 to 2012. His father was also implicated in the criminal activity.
Woods is accused of rigging poker games and cheating.
"He used other people's identities to play as several people at the same time and also gained extra commission payments above what he would have been allowed to earn if he had been using just his own name," the Grimsby Telegraph noted.
The 29-year-old Stallingborough, UK poker pro denied 13 fraud offences initially but later admitted to nine of them.
From the Grimsby Telegraph:
A total of £911,217 had already been restrained after police investigations and, of that, it was ordered that £283,673 be paid as compensation to a Gibraltar-based gaming company, to be used to recompense players who were victims of his collusion offences in online games.
Prosecutor Andrew West told the court: "At the moment, he has assets well in excess of £1.4 million."
Efforts would be made to obtain other money held by gaming companies, said Mr West. The gambler's father was involved in laundering £230,000 linked to his son's attempts to fleece the system and other punters, the court heard.
Woods was ordered to return £1 million or face further punishment.
