Man Wins Woman’s Poker Tournament
Forget the controversy over runner Caster Semenya winning woman's championship races even though she apparently has some man parts (assuming you believe the reports that have come out in recent days).
She may have started a trend actually.
Gambling911.com's now hired gun reporter, Thomas Somach, reveals that a man has won a women's poker tournament!
"According to media reports, the gender-bending tournament was held Saturday at the Borgata hotel and casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA, and was a no-limit Texas hold ‘em tourney with a buy-in of $300. The event was advertised as a ladies-only tournament and 260 women entered. But so did one man, Abraham Korotki, 65, of Ventnor City, New Jersey, USA-and he won."
How did it happen?
Casinos in the USA can request than a poker tournament be open to women only, but legally they can't bar men from playing in it.
Generally the public will acquiesce to the request, but if a man wants to enter a women's tourney, there's nothing the casino can do about it without violating Federal anti-discrimination laws, Somach says.
Korotki said he was never told-as if he needed to be-that he couldn't play in a poker tournament that was supposed to be for women only.
"I have great respect for the people at Borgata," Korotki said."If someone had said Abe, you can play, but please don't, I would have said fine and gone home."
Somach points out that the person most irked by Korotki's participation was none other than runner-up, Nicole Rowe, obviously a female (or maybe not so obviously if current trends were to hold true).
"When you're a woman and you play poker, 99% of the time you're at a table with nine men," Rowe said. "Competing in an all-women field was something I had been looking forward to. Why did he have to ruin it for us? Why would he do this?"
