Mario Lopez Wins Estrellas Barcelona Main Event 2015
The one and only Mario Lopez has just won the 2015 Estrellas Barcelona Main Event, beating out 3291 players and taking home €408,000.
Not that Mario Lopez though.
This is Argentina’s own Mario Lopez as opposed to the Hollywood heartthrob from “Saved By the Bell”.
The 3,291 players broke a record for the biggest field in PokerStars live tournament history.
Lopez, 39, has already had a terrific summer, arriving at the EPT Barcelona Poker Festival after a great WSOP campaign where he was a runner-up in the $1,111 Little One for One Drop for $399,455. Lopez needed only two months to top his best prize again, collecting his second PokerStars local tour title. Last year, he took down LAPT Vina del Mar for $117,991. His victory here means back-to-back wins in this event for Argentine players after Matias Ruzzi defeated a 2,560-strong field last year for €198,550.
Lopez beat start-of-day chip leader Jonn Forst heads-up. Just before they started battling, they agreed on an even chop securing €338,000 each as they were neck and neck in chips. Although, that still left much at stake - an additional €70,000 along with the title and coveted trophy.
