Matt 'Susan Lucci' Savage Looks for 10th Poker Hall of Fame Nomination

Will Matt Savage be nominated for a tenth time?

Savage is looking to finally be entered into the Poker Hall of Fame.

He's been called the "Susan Lucci of Poker".  That's a reference to the "All My Children" star who received 19 Emmy nominations before finally winning in 1999 for her portrayal of Erika Kane.

In other words, Savage may be waiting a while.

The nomination process opened this past week.

The Director of the World Poker Tour encouraged people to nominate him via his Facebook page.

"I know I won’t get in under the current system but I’d really like to be nominated for the 10th time if you can spare a vote? #ThankYou"

Gambling911.com's Thomas Somach sat down with Savage three years ago when he received his 7th nomination.  That was the most nominations anyone in the poker world had received up to that point,

"I’ve been told that I was “stone bubble” (one from the money) the last three years, so I think I will finish once again in the top two or three," Savage said at the time. 

This year he seems even less optimistic. 

In 2022, Savage lost to a dead person, Layne Flack.

Poker Hall Of Fame Criteria

The nominees must meet the six criteria for induction:

•     Respected by their peers: A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition.
•     Must be a minimum of 40 years old at the time of nomination
•     Played for high-stakes
•     Consistent Excellence: A player must have played consistently well, gaining the respect of his peers.
•     The player must have "stood the test of time."
•     Shaped the game: For non-players, the person must have contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

Until 2020, there were typically two inductees per year. However, for the last five years, only one player gets the nod each year.

While online poker isn't a requirement, many of the recent inductees have shown their chops on both the live and virtual felt.

Last year, Patrik Antonius became the 63rd member of the elite club. Mori Eskandani was the last non-player inductee. The PokerGO president was integral to poker's television popularity and inducted in 2018, alongside John Hennigan.

The 2025 inductee will have his enshrinement ceremony in concert with the final table of the WSOP main event.
