Online Poker Bill In California to Move Through Committee Vote for First Time

After years of trying and failing, a bill to legalize online poker in the state of California will be moving through Committee for voting.  It is the first time a version of Web poker legislation has gotten this far in the state legislature.

California is considered the golden goose in the world of US-state i-poker regulation.  Alone, the state represents the world’s 8th largest economy.  To date, only New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware have passed similar legislation.

On Monday, the Assembly Governmental Organization Committee(GO) voted unanimously in favor of advancing AB 431.  It is sponsored by Assembly member Adam Gray.

Two Tribal casino groups - Pechanga and Agua Caliente – were initially opposed to the bill but changed their position to “neutral” prior to Monday’s hearing.

Three additional hearings are already scheduled over the course of this summer.
