Online Poker Movie ‘Runner Runner’ Filming Throughout San Juan, Puerto Rico
Gambling911.com is here in beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico where “Runner Runner” has begun filming in locations throughout the island.
“Runner Runner” is written by the same two gentlemen who brought us “Rounders”, Brian Koppelman and David Levien. It stars Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, both of whom can be found frequenting the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. Our spies working at the hotel tell us both Timberlake and Affleck have been super nice and are big tippers.
The US territory of Puerto Rico is substituting for the online gambling hub of San Jose, Costa Rica. How ironic, since the United States government continues to insist that offshore gambling establishments continue to illegally target its citizens.
The initial part of “Runner Runner” has Timberlake’s character being cheated out of his college tuition money while playing online poker (maybe at Full Tilt Poker?).
Timberlake then travels to Costa Rica – where the poker site is located – in hopes of getting his money back.
Don’t count on it Justin!
We already relayed the message that the only online poker site still operating from Costa Rica that caters to US citizens (with the exception of some Merge skins tied to reputable online sportsbooks like Sportsbook.ag and SBG Global) is Americas Cardroom. He won’t need to head on down to Costa Rica to retrieve his funds. Americas Cardroom is known for paying like clockwork, within a time from of 7 to 14 business days to US customers (better than the standard due to payment processing limitations).
Instead, Timberlake might want to trot on over to Alderney, an island off the coast of the United Kingdom that once licensed the now defunct Full Tilt Poker.
That’s not to say Costa Rica hasn’t had its fair share of deadbeats and fly-by-nights when it comes to online gambling overall in the past 16 years, just not so much on the poker side of things. In fact, today’s betting businesses located in Costa Rica are widely considered among the most reputable being that they have weathered the storm of prohibition.
