PartyPoker Dangerously Close to Losing Position
The online poker firm PartyPoker could lose its number 3 spot among global online poker rooms within the next two months and may find itself at the lower end of the top 5 by year’s end. PartyPoker “real cash” player business was down a whopping 25 percent last week.
The iPoker Network was within 600 “real cash” players striking distance of Party this week according to PokerScout.com, a website that monitors online poker traffic.
The Cereus Network, which includes popular Gambling911.com sponsors UB.com and AbsolutePoker.com, held onto its number 5 spot for another week. Cereus was showing some signs of pulling away from OnGame Poker, though the later network did have a stronger week overall and looks to bring Betfair into the fold in the coming days.
Perhaps one of the most significant moves in the online poker world this past week is Bodog Poker’s lowest recorded ranking to date on the “real cash” player spectrum. They had fallen to the number 19 spot with a weekly average of just under 600 players. This is at least partially due to PokerScout’s ranking of Everest Poker’s new French card room separate from the main Everest Poker website.
Online poker traffic climbed 2.4 percent this past week in conjunction with the World Series of Poker main event. Websites will rely on nonstop broadcasts of the WSOP on ESPN to reel in new players over the next several months, including the “nearly live” airing of the final table November 7.
