The "Poker Brat" tweeted out a challenge to his "critics" who don't think he's any good at cash games. Each player, if the prop bet is accepted, would wager $500,000 for a $1,000,000 pot.

The 17-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner tweeted out the following challenge:

Talk is cheap

If someone actually believes that I am a losing player in cash games (I have won over $3M since 2014 in cash games and have tax records to prove it), then will they put their money where their mouth is?

My critic and I will post $500,000 each, and that critic can book me—dollar for dollar—in the games you say I lose money in, televised cash games (where I won 23-out-of-24 sessions from 2013-2019).

This year: I am winning $110,000 in 6 sessions of $25-$50 “Hellmuth’s Home Game” (on YouTube and @CBSSportsNet

  • Michigan Reports Huge August Revenue Numbers, But There was Still a Drop - According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, the three Detroit casinos topped more than $106 million in August. It should be noted that August’s Detroit casino totals were down more than 4% from August’s total from 2024.  MGM Grand Detroit dominated August, nearly accounting for 50% of the $106+ million casino game revenue. Motor City Casino came in a distant second with a 30% share. Hollywood Casino finished a distant third, contributing 22% to the $106.9 million casino revenue.  Even though Michigan has 23 tribal casinos, they pay considerably less in gaming taxes to local state agencies. This is due to the Indian Bureau’s economic impact of legalizing tribally owned casinos for federally recognized sovereign tribal nations, courtesy of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988. To prevent billions in lost gaming tax revenue from leaving the state, the Michigan Gaming Control Board continues its unyielding campaign, cracking down on unlicensed online casinos.

  • Why Billionaires Are Piling Into Prediction Markets - Prediction markets are hotspots for investments from the smartest billionaires in finance. Interactive Brokers founder Thomas Peterffy (net worth: $72 billion) told Forbes he tried to acquire Kalshi shortly after its angel round in 2021. Spurned, but undeterred, Peterffy’s Interactive Brokers launched a subsidiary called ForecastEx a year ago and is now competing with Kalshi, with future events ranging from the NYC mayoral race to the year-end 2025 price of Bitcoin. In April 2024, Jeff Yass’s ($65 billion) quantitative trading hedge fund Susquehanna International Group joined forces with Kalshi to provide liquidity as one of its primary market makers. More recently, Kalshi partnered with Vlad Tenev’s ($6.4 billion) Robinhood to add event contracts trading to the firm’s growing retail investment offerings. (read more from Forbes here)

  • Winning $2 Miillion Powerball Ticket is Sold at a Publix in Florida. Here’s Where - A Powerball player just missed a $67 million jackpot — but still won a life-changing prize in Florida. The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Sept. 15 drawing. Since the person spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option, their $1 million prize doubled to $2 million, results show. So where was the winning ticket purchased? The lucky ticket was sold at the Publix grocery store on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers.

  • Lawmakers just pushed AB 831 through the Assembly with a clean 63-0 vote, aiming to put a stop to online sweepstakes-style casinos statewide. The bill managed to get through just in the nick of time with the legislative period in California coming to a close this past Friday. Now it’s up to Governor Gavin Newsom. He can sign the bill into law. But will he? Sponsored by Assemblymember Avelino Valencia, the AB 831 bill targets sweepstakes casinos that use “no purchase necessary” and “dual currency” models—think social casino platforms like Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots, and Global Poker. Governor Gavin Newsom has until October 12 to act. So far, he hasn’t said a word about it publicly. The bill can also become law without his signature should he choose to do nothing, or Newsom can veto the bill. While the powerful tribes in the state are against these sweepstakes casinos, the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance and VGW (parent company of Chumba and LuckyLand) do have some sway. • Federal Loopholes May Have Opened the Door to Alternative Gambling Options Online - Clck2Houston examines loopholes that are permitting prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi to enter the Texas market even though that state does not even regulate online gambling companies. They point to a recent had that procleims: “I found a way to bet on the NFL even though we live in Texas,” reads a simulated text in one Instagram ad from prediction market app Kalshi. Through prediction markets and daily fantasy sports, also known as DFS, Texans have more access than ever to win — or lose — money based on the outcome of sporting events. And it can be done without leaving the state, where betting on contests or games is both illegal and a sticking point among state officials. Despite the ads’ claims, no new state or federal laws related to gambling regulation passed this year, except for a restriction on online lottery ticket couriers. Repeated efforts in the Texas Legislature to legalize sports betting, casinos and DFS have all faltered, leaving the games unregulated and unclear on these digital alternatives beyond a nearly decade-old nonbinding opinion from Attorney General Ken Paxton. • Gang Posed as Detectives to Con Racing Scam Victims - Gang members who posed as private detectives to defraud more than £110,000 from victims of previous horse racing and betting scams have been jailed. Rogue builder Christopher Call, 36, and his associate Charles Palmer, 43, who fled to Spain in the aftermath, led a fake scheme offering fraud victims compensation in exchange for commission paid upfront, Teesside Crown Court heard. Kevin Ratcliffe, 44, lent the pair a Bentley to help portray them as successful businessmen while Joseph Holden, 35, allowed the money to be paid into his bank account. Judge Francis Laird KC said the gang from Sussex targeted vulnerable and "desperate" people who had already lost thousands of pounds.
