Playtech Wants New US Partner in Bid to Lead Internet Poker Sector

Playtech, one of the leading software providers for the online gambling and Internet poker sector, revealed Tuesday it was in talks with a number of potential partners to begin offering legalized Web gambling in the United States.

The US Department of Justice changed its stance related to online gambling last month, saying the Wire Act would only be applied to sports betting.  This cleared the way for other types of i-Gaming for real cash to become legalized in the US.

"We have lots of potential customers that approached us or that we approached that would like to have us as their suppliers of online gaming products when the market opens up," Weizer told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday.

"There is a lot of work being done behind the scenes in various states by various local authorities. We have people on the ground now in the U.S. working with us in order to monitor all these processes," Weizer added.

Just one day previous it was revealed that Playtech would be restructuring its arrangement with Scientific Games, the company it entered into a joint venture with this past summer to provide online poker to the state of California.

Tuesday’s announcement by Playtech indicates more lofty goals for a company that currently operates the world’s third largest Internet poker network, iPoker.
