A 38-year-old French poker player who claimed he and his driver were attacked by two masked assailants upon leaving a poker game was arrested in 2011 and charged with fraud.

Mouly claims he was ambushed by the armed men as he was returning home with an individual described as his “chauffeur”.  The poker pro managed to escape and run to the nearest police station.  When police arrived at the scene with Mouly, his driver was discovered fatally stabbed numerous times in the lobby of a nearby building.  The driver received a dozen stab wounds to his chest.

Mouly has had previous run-ins with the law, which may lead police to believe this was no random encounter.

In 2011, he was indicted for "organized fraud and laundering the proceeds of fraud committed by organized gangs".  That investigation commenced in 2008.

Mouly, believed to have been the ring-leader of the scheme, was accused of having embezzled around EUR 12 million from a company he founded, IT Dealing.  There were dozens of victims, both individuals and business entities.

The murdered 60-year-old driver was reportedly involved in the scheme.  Court hearings were still ongoing at the time of the murder with both individuals having appeared before a judge last month.

Mouly is a regular at the Big Game in Las Vegas for several years and was caught last month by fraud cases.
