Wayne Allyn Root, the Chairman of the Libertarian National Congressional Committee (LNCC) announced the addition ofPhil Gordon, one of the great poker professionals in the world, to the Board of the LNCC. Gordon is a World Poker Tour champion, has seven final table finishes at the World Series of Poker, and close to $3,000,000 in lifetime tournament winnings. Gordon is a poker analyst for ESPN.com, the former lead commentator for Bravo’s hit show “Celebrity Poker Showdown”, and the author of 3 poker books with more than 500,000 copies in print in 12 languages.
Apart from his success at the tables, Gordon is also a well-known CEO, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. A Presidential Scholar at age 15, by his twenties Gordon had cashed out of a high-tech startup that sold to Cisco Systems for $95 million dollars. He retired from computer science at age 26 to take a 5-year, 50+ country journey around the world.
Today, Gordon is perhaps best known for his charity work. His “Bad Beat on Cancer” initiative has raised more than $3.3 million dollars for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and is now the official charity platform for the famous World Series of Poker, the world’s richest sporting event (over $150 million dollars in prizes in 2010).
Root said of Gordon’s addition to the LNCC Board, "I am so proud to add one of the world’s greatest poker professionals, as well as a business superstar to our Board.
