“Little Man” Mike Sica has passed away following a long bout with cancer.

The retired teacher and long-time poker veteran from North Brunswick, NJ amassed over $1.2 million in tournament earnings during his playing career.

“I had come back from playing at the Borgata and had a bad pain in my neck,” Sica said this past April. “After the doctors ran some tests, they told me it was cancer.”

He also gave this advise: “Don’t start smoking. I started when I was 16 and I remember a 93-year-old neighbor who walked up to me one day when I was lighting up who said to me, you better stop doing that. Looking back, I wish I had listened to him. So to the younger players out there, I say do yourself a favor and quit now.”

The WSOP.com site said of Sica:

In addition to his poker pedigree, Sica is known for his sense of humor, jovial nature and his conduct with other players. Whether you’ve known Mike for decades or have just made his acquaintance, you can easily sense his warmth and kindness before he parts ways with a “God bless.”

He will be missed greatly by the poker community.
