Macau Poker Cup celebrates 20th installment with special HK $8 million guarantee for the Red Dragon Main Event
MACAU, CHINA – October 11, 2013 – ‘PokerStars LIVE Macau’ today announced its plans for the 20th installment of the Macau Poker Cup (MPC), which takes place from January 10-21, 2014.
In celebration of MPC20, the legendary Red Dragon Main Event has been given a massive HK $8 million (US $1 million) guarantee.
“After six years and 19 Red Dragon events, the Macau Poker Cup has changed the landscape of poker in Macau and throughout Asia,” said Danny McDonagh, PokerStars Director of Live Poker Operations in the Asia-Pacific. “The MPC is Asia’s biggest regional poker series and MPC20 is set to shatter all previous records.”
In April 2013, the MPC set a new record in Asia with 891 unique players in the Red Dragon event. MPC20 is expected to not only surpass that mark but also become the first Asia-based tournament to have over 1,000 unique players.
The 12-day schedule will include a total of 12 Official ‘Asia Player of the Year’ events to launch the 2014 season.
Two new tournaments will be introduced at MPC20. The opening weekend will see the launch of the HK $6,000 ‘Baby Dragon’ warm-up event, which comes with a HK $1 million guarantee. The other is the HK $50,000 High Roller tournament.
“I always knew the MPC would get bigger and the Red Dragon is hugely popular throughout Asia,” said Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin. The two-time Main Event champion added: “It’s hard to believe we’re at number 20 already but I have no doubt MPC20 is going to be the biggest ever, and I love the opportunity of winning a historic event.”
Players can qualify for free to MPC20 on PokerStars.net beginning November 4, 2013.
