Poker players on the popular PocketFives.com website have blasted casino magnate Sheldon Adelson regarding his stance on legalized Internet gambling in the US.  Adelson announced he will be ratcheting things up a notch by hiring lobbying groups in a feeble-minded effort to ban Web gambling at the federal level as states like New Jersey and Nevada start launching their own sites.

As one might expect, few favored Adelson’s opposition.  He has called online gambling a “cancer to society”.

One reader of the PocketFives.com website writes:

I doubt you'd see one tear shed if this guy dropped dead today. The issue isn't only about us playing online poker. It's about our rights as a citizen to do what we want in the comfort of our own homes. I'm personally sick and tired of our bought government in general and wouldn't be one bit upset if it kicked the bucket as well.

Another wrote:

This is the most hypocritical stance I've ever heard of. How is online gaming a single lick different than brick and mortar casinos that he runs?

I can also see it being a good thing if people in Congress actually start paying attention to him and realize the type of tax revenue that online gaming can generate. This may very well blow up in his face, by attacking the issue head on.

And then there was this…

He is the CEO of a casino... why would he be so opposed to something that has been ultimately embraced by the business he is in? It seems to me that this guy is one of those out of touch grandpas. I bet he doesn't know how to use the internet and the fact that so many people are enjoying something he can't understand is also fueling his fire. What a low life scumbag...

But our personal favorite (gulp)….

I think i'd give up internet poker forever if i knew even for a minute I could wipe the smile off this snarky little ginger bitch.

You gotta love the poker community!
