Tom Durrrr Dwan Stays Hot, Crushes Phil Ivey
When the candidates for the 2009 induction to the Poker Hall of Fame was announced during last year's World Series of Poker, many people scoffed at the notion that Tom "Durrrr" Dwan made the final list to be voted on. Citing his young age and lack of live poker tournament wins, many simply felt that he had not done enough to cement himself among the all-time greats of the game. Shortly thereafter, though he was starting to build up a big lead on Patrik Antonius in the Durrrr Challenge, Dwan experienced a major downswing on the virtual felt. It seems however that the beginning of 2010 allowed him to refocus and refocus he has, as he is online poker's biggest money earner so far for the year. In fact, he seems to have been reinvigorated by the presence of new hotshot up and comers such as Isildur1 who had, at least temporarily, stolen all of the headlines.
Dwan With $5 Million in Cash Earnings in 2010
This year, things are quite different as Dwan stands alone atop the leaderboard, with over $5 million in cash earnings already. When asked if he was ever down on himself and whether he questioned his own game, Dwan replied,
"If anyone doesn't think that it's a downswing then they are welcome to cross book me in any game I play in.That's all I have to say."
It is this kind of brash confidence and bravado that have helped make him the crowd favorite he is today. What he has never lost is the respect of other members of the poker elite. In addition, he impressively took on Phil Ivey last night and took him for almost a half million dollars alone.
After dispatching the living legend Ivey, Dwan took on Justin Bonomo, continuing a mini-battle the two have waged in recent weeks. Dwan kept his streak going, taking Bonomo for over $115K.
He didn't stop there. He capped his impressive session by taking over $800K from Ashton "theASHMAN103" Griffin in just a scant 32 hands.
Though doing so may be a lot to ask, should Dwan keep this pace up, he should eclipse many records in 2010.
