Ultimate Poker Leaving New Jersey Market?

It’s no secret that online poker in the state of New Jersey has underperformed.

Ultimate Poker, one of a handful of online gambling firms licensed by the New Jersey Gaming Commission, announced on Friday September 19, 2014 it would be leaving the New Jersey online gambling market after the Taj Mahal announced pending bankruptcy.

Robert Dellafav of OnlinePokerReport.com predicted the exit earlier this summer

As much as I’ve been an advocate of Ultimate Poker’s home-grown approach to online poker, I can’t see it surviving long into the PokerStars era. Its prospects in Nevada, where PokerStars will remain a non-player are better, but even there it trails WSOP.com by a wide margin.

Chan’s departure foreshadows what is probably the departure of Ultimate Poker from NJ’s market. Sorry UP, it’s been a fun ride.

Dellafav was referring to one Terrance Chan, who announced he and Ultimate Poker were parting ways just over a year after entering into their business arrangement.

UltimatePoker.com is the brainchild of the Fertitta Brothers, owners of both the UFC and Station Casinos.  They joined forces with one of Atlantic City’s most popular casino establishments, the Taj Mahal.
