It’s timeeeeeeeeeee (Bruce Buffer Voice), Event 61 is the largest, most respected and richest poker tournament in the world. The $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship, the Cadillac of Poker has arrived. Tomorrow, thousands of hopefuls from all around the world begin their start to a new fortune, immortality and fame until Monday, July 16. On that day, the field will be reduced to the final nine players and we’ll be just a few weeks away from the delayed final table. The World Series of Poker $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship is the tournament every poker player wants to win. It has a great tournament structure, 30,000 starting chips, 2-hour levels, starting at 50/100 blinds. Of course there is the most prestigious and desired poker bracelet up for grabs, and some serious coin. However, the longtime popular structure has suffered some changes:

  • Three starting days (instead of the usual four). Will this mean fewer or more players?
  • The day off has been removed (After the conclusion of Day 2B). How does this affect older players like Doyle Brunson?
  • Five full levels each day. Who has the stamina?
  • The final table will not take place in November; it will take place in October. Yay - no conflict with the upcoming elections!

The first changes will bring several benefits to players; a shorter event (three full days less) and less downtime between play.  It’s also expected to draw greater fields for the initial three days making another massive prize pool, yet impossible to beat the highest payout for any poker champion in history (Antonio Esfandiari won $18,346,673). Nearly 100 additional tables will be added to the Rio Convention Center; 470 tables, distributed between the Pavilion Room, Brasilia Room and the new addition for the extra tables will be in the Brasilia Ball Room.

GG November Nine!

The final table has been moved up a week. The last 9 players will return on Sunday, October 28th, and only two players will advance onto the following and last day. The heads-up match will take place on Tuesday, October 30th.

The 2012 Main Event promises to be another record-breaker and we are just days away from the end of the World Series of Poker and the quest of  the last coveted WSOP Bracelet is about to be unfolded.
