Former U.S. President and the 2024 Republican nominee Donald Trump has recommitted to a Sept. 10 debate with the current vice president and presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
Trump said he had proposed three debates with three television networks in September.
BetOnline was expected to release Harris-Trump ABC debate prop bets shortly. They currently offer odds on the Over/Under number of debates prior to the election.
Earlier Thursday BetOnline confirmed that Harris had become the odds-on favorite to win the 2024 general election over Trump for the first time.
Trump’s decision to go on ABC, days after posting on his social media account that he would not appear on the network, sets up a highly anticipated moment in an election where Biden’s catastrophic performance in the last debate set in motion his withdrawal.
That debate brought an estimated 51.27 million viewers to the CNN presentation with countless more watching elsewhere that night and across various platforms in the days that followed.
“I think it’s very important to have debates,” Trump said Thursday during an hour long press conference. “I look forward to the debates because I think we have to set the record straight.”
A few hours after the news conference, Harris wrote on X that she heard Trump “has finally committed” to debate her on ABC on Sept. 10, the date her campaign has long stuck to.
“I look forward to it,” she wrote.
Thursday’s event was Trump’s first public appearance since Harris selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. Trump called Walz a “radical left man.”
