In the wake of the tragic news of American right-leaning political activist, author, and media personality Charlie Kirk's shocking murder Wednesday while speaking at a Utah college, Gambling911.com takes a look at one of Kirk's more recent stance as it pertained to gambling. Kirk admitted at the time he "might get lots of hate" for his viewpoints. Kirk expressed his views in regard to a gambling provision in the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" that no longer allowed individuals to claim 100 percent of their casino and sports betting losses.
Beginning in 2026, gamblers can only deduct 90% of their gambling losses (up to the amount of their winnings), instead of 100%.
Kirk fully understood that many in his audience were "livid" over the provision.
"My view is a little more moderate," he noted at the time. "I think honestly, and I am going to get some hate for this, we need to have a reckoning that compulsive gambling is really bad for society and a lot of people are losing a ton of money doing it and we should not overly subsidize bad activity."
He does on: "I don't want to punish gamblers if they do it professionally and prudently but also, frankly, a lot of people are not making a living gambling. And so one of the biggest losers her is then sports gambling. So, look, I don't want to hurt people who have built businesses and, if you are overly worried about this, you probably have some form of a problem.
"A lot of young men are addicted to gambling. I do not want to overly preach to them or be overly condescending or judgmental, but I will say this, that the spirit of what this is trying to do, it's trying to close a loophole that allows a practice of an activity that we should not glorify."

- Bomb Threat Leads To Casino Evacuation - Police received a report about a potential threat to the Oak Grove Gaming Center at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. A bomb threat at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel led to the building being evacuated Wednesday at that time. After a search of the building by law enforcement and K9’s, no hostages or materials used to make a bomb were found. Authorities cleared the scene just after 8 p.m. Oak Grove Police were assisted by Kentucky State Police, Hopkinsville EMS, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fort Campbell Bomb Squad.
